Labels: Albert King, blues Friday, December 11, 2015 Harmonized Pentatonic LeadsThis is a great lesson, showing how simple it is to play harmonized major pentatonic licks. And it works just as well with a minor pentatonic scale: More info and notation is available here. Labels: harmonized, pentatonic, rock Tuesday, July 8, 2014 A Charlie Byrd-Style Jazz LickAnother cool lick of the week from Cameron Mizell. This time it's a jazzy line inspired by the great Charlie Byrd: Notation for the lick is available here. Labels: Charlie Byrd, jazz Monday, July 7, 2014 Four Note Guitar SolosIt's meant for beginners, but Griff Hamlin's four note blues guitar tutorial, based on a simplified version of the Albert King box, also works an exercise for more-advanced guitar players. Limiting yourself to just four notes (five, if you count the bend of the 10th fret D on the high E string), can be an effective way to construct a solo, one where you're very conscious of every note you play: You can also open up the simple pattern by bending the 10th fret A note on the B string for a Hendrix feel, as demonstrated by Tim Pierce in this post from last week. Labels: Albert King, beginner, blues, Hendrix Tuesday, July 1, 2014 Jazzy ArpeggioCameron Mizell demonstrates a nifty multi-octave arpeggio lick: Tablature for the lick is available at this post on Mizell's site. Monday, June 30, 2014 How to Play Like HendrixSession guitarist Tim Pierce has a great tutorial on how to play Jimi Hendrix-style guitar leads: |
